Going Batty for Halloween Decorations

Pumpkin Bat Locket

My mom and grandma love to decorate. I was never particularly fond of the hobby. That is, until I had my own house to decorate and my own rooms to theme to my taste. I guess finding the charm in decorating comes when you can explore your own style.

It’s October, and I have slowly been decorating my house to reflect the season. I have finally come to a point where I am content and happy with the space I have created and I am ready to share it with you (I feel like I’m on HGTV).

Pumpkins Galore

I’ve been curating a little pumpkin collection. It is a mix of real pumpkins, fake, and a little bit of sparkle. I imagine this is a collection that will continue to grow. Pumpkins aren’t just Halloween decor, they can last all fall!

Bat Wall

I was inspired by a few pictures on Pinterest (like this post and this one) and decided to create a “bat wall” in my house. I couldn’t find a bat pattern that was the right size or design, so I free handed my own. Once I had the pattern, this project was super simple. I was able to create it all with three sheets of black construction paper, a pair of scissors, and some scotch tape.

The trick is to fold your paper in half and cut your bats on the fold so you have a perfectly symmetrical bat. This trick also gives your bat a nice bend. When you put the bats up, alternate which side of the fold you tape to the wall. This creates different shadows on the wall and gives your bats the illusion of flight.

I placed my bats on the wall opposite my front door. So, when trick or treaters come a’ knocking, they will see a spooky flurry of bats escaping from my kitchen! How fun is that?

Atop my coffee table are two Time-Life “Mysteries of the Unknown” books that I picked up at a book sale. How festive, right?

I just can’t stop thinking about how cute Origami Owl’s bat charm is and the locket picture doesn’t do it justice. So, here you go:

EEEEK I just love it! Look at his crazy eyes!
